Father Michael’s 2008 World AIDS Day Lecture focused around the challenges of living with HIV/AIDS, and its interaction with food security. As part of his conclusion, Fr. Michael outlined the steps he felt necessary to ensure that food security, as a problem for persons living with HIV, can be eliminated:
1) Strengthen the capacity of families, households, communities
2) Ensure access to essential services, especially schooling for girls, health care, and the prevention of HIV transmission from parent to child
3) Advocate that governments protect the most vulnerable
Promote sustainable livelihoods in both rural and urban areas
and lastly,
4) Advocate for greater priority for food security and fair trade.
